With the weather looking good for this weekend, riders can register on the day for the 2021 Rotary Dorset Bike Ride, taking place on Sunday 10th October, starting and finishing at Longthorns Campsite next to Monkey World, near Wareham.
The ride, organised in support of Cancer Research UK, has raised over £300,000 since its launch in 2012. Many of the riders have their own stories about loved ones who have suffered from this terrible disease. This year is particularly poignant for event organiser, Richard Burnett, who was diagnosed with cancer late last year.
Richard commented, “While some of my close family have known cancer, it was a huge surprise to find out I had prostate cancer. This gave me renewed vigour to support Cancer Research UK through the Rotary Dorset Bike Ride. While we had to cancel the 2019 event due to COVID, I was determined that this year’s event would take place.”
There is a choice of five different routes 22, 35, 55, 70 and 108 miles in length. People can simply turn up on the day at Longthorns. Registration opens at 7.30am, with the first ride, the 108kms, starting at 8am.
